Mimosa Plus Becomes First GEO-Certified Golf Course in the Philippines

Mimosa Plus Golf Course in Clark, Pampanga has become the first course in the Philippines to achieve a GEO Certified® status.

The award-winning golf destination with two 18-hole, par 72 courses was recognized by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf for its enduring dedication to environmental stewardship, climate action, and community value for everyone.

The GEO Certification is also a triumph for Philippine golf as the label is considered the sport's most credible and widely endorsed international certification available for golf facility operations, new golf developments and tournament staging.

"It's important to remember that golf and the environment should coexist harmoniously," Mimosa Plus Golf Course director Rory Young said. "To become GEO Certified is like a gold medal for all the green champions at Mimosa Plus who worked tirelessly to make sure the golf course is ahead when it comes to sustainable practices," he added.

WATER PRESERVATION

Mimosa Plus Golf Course is committed in conserving water as part of helping the environment. Upgrading into Integrated Control (IC) System from Rain Bird made a great impact by means of planning and controlling the use of water. Adopting this new technology is a great step in achieving minimal consumption of water inside the golf course.

Mimosa Plus Golf also established Rainfall Monitoring System to effectively minimize in consuming water for irrigation. Rainbird system is designed to automatically react to rainfall and adjust sprinkler application rates to take full advantage of natural rain, thereby eliminating over-watering. The system also saves water and electricity, while keeping the course drier and more playable, by pausing, adjusting, or canceling irrigation in the event of rainfall.

RECYCLED DISTANCE MARKERS

The vast expanse of Mimosa Plus Golf Course is measured by distance markers made from 70% recycled plastic and 30% natural elements.

Strategically placed at 200, 150, 100, and 50 yards, these markers were especfially designed to guide golfers and emphasize the facility's commitment to sustainability. Single-use onsite plastic waste was transformed into permanent installations with the help of local environmental solutions company Green Antz.

WELCOME TO THE BUG HOTEL

Have you spotted these beautifully designed bug hotels at Mountainview and Acacia?

Introducing bug hotels inside the golf course helps to provide a safe and attractive habitat for beneficial insects and also helps to increase local insect populations. This sustainability project also aims to contribute in bringing balance to biodiversity.

The bug hotels were designed and made by the Mimosa Plus Golf staff employees. By involving them in this activity, they became more aware of the importance of biodiversity and that there is a fun way to get involved in protecting the beneficial bugs and insects in this planet we live in.

BEYOND THE PERFECT SWING

Mimosa Plus Golf Course is home to a diverse and beautiful ecosystem, where rare bird species like the Golden-bellied Gerygone and the White-collared Kingfisher flourish. Our dedication to a thriving environment is what makes us the first and only GEO-certified golf facility in the Philippines.

Greenstand Tree Tagging

Greenstand Tree Tagging

In December 2022, Mimosa Plus Golf took a significant step toward sustainability by implementing Greenstand software to track and tag trees across the golf course. This innovative tool allows for the detailed monitoring of every tree within the area, providing valuable insights into the health and growth of the surrounding ecosystem.

This initiative is part of our broader commitment to environmental stewardship, helping us manage and protect the natural habitat while promoting biodiversity. By focusing on the well-being of trees and other living organisms, we aim to nurture a balanced and thriving ecosystem.

In line with this dedication, Mimosa Plus Golf continues to prioritize nature through ongoing tree planting efforts. In 2024 alone, nearly a hundred new trees were planted as part of our ongoing sustainability initiatives. This reflects our unwavering commitment to fostering the growth of nature and maintaining a harmonious relationship with the environment.

Expanding landscapes: Adding beauty and habitats

Expanding landscapes: Adding beauty and habitats

The two 18-hole golf courses (Mountainview and Acacia) have expanded its landscapes by means of converting the unplayable areas into red cogon (Pennisetum).

During the renovation that started in 2016, huge areas of rough has been scraped and planted with this new grass. Red cogon requires less maintenance compared to other grass species that requires mowing and trimming from time to time, which also translates to a reduction on carbon emission.
